Domestic Animal Management Plan

Consultation has concluded

We’re back for round 2! Baw Baw Shire Council is developing a new Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP), and you are invited to have your say, your way!

Earlier this year we asked our community to have their say on our current DAMP, and we’ve used that feedback to inform a new draft document which is now up for review.

What is the Domestic Animal Management Plan?

The Domestic Animal Management Plan is up for review.

The Domestic Animal Management Plan is a four-year plan that provides Council with a strategic, balanced approach towards:

Promotion of responsible pet ownership,

The welfare of dogs and cats in the community; and

The protection of the community and the environment from nuisance dogs and cats.

Why is it under review?

State Government regulations require Council to prepare a new Domestic Animal Management Plan every four years.

By undertaking a review of the Domestic Animal Management Plan, Council can ensure it is meeting current community expectations while also protecting our residents, assets and facilities.

What's happened so far?

During March – April 2025 we asked our community to let us know their thoughts on the Domestic Animal Management Plan. We heard from 79 people and the feedback has been used to help develop a new draft Domestic Animal Management Plan.

At a meeting 28 May 2025, Council resolved to release the draft Domestic Animal Management Plan for community engagement.

How can I have my say on the new Domestic Animal Management Plan?

Have your say on the draft Domestic Animal Management Plan by reviewing the draft DAMP, and completing the survey or making a written submission by Sunday 29 June 2025.

We encourage you to provide your feedback to help us understand what's important to you. Your input will help to shape the new Domestic Animal Management Plan.
