Alex Goudie Native Park is a cherished green space at the heart of Drouin. We are improving the Alex Goudie Native Park to honour the park's rich history, protect its natural beauty, and enhance its activities and amenities to cater to the evolving needs of the Drouin community.
Background
In December 2023 we collected some improvement ideas for the Alex Goudie Native Park through the interactive map incorporated in the Open Space Strategy Community Consultation program, we have reviewed community requests and met with involved community groups to better understand the needs and potential for improvement in this park.
Through the development of the Master Plan, we aimed to further solidify the park's place as a cherished gathering space, a hub for outdoor recreation, and a symbol of Drouin's commitment to preserving its natural treasures while welcoming new developments.
We are seeking your input to ensure we have got your needs right.
Key elements of the draft Master Plan
Informal recreation:
A proposal to extend the current playground and improve with more play elements.
A proposal for a sand and rock area for children.
A proposal for a play area for older kids including gender-inclusive challenging play elements.
Landscape and environment:
Plant native species, restore ecological balance and reinforce and improve the habitat.
Maintain the landscape character of the site, utilising natural materials to enhance the natural feeling and connection to nature.
Cultural reflection:
Proposed iconic spaces and elements such as memorial poles and ceremonial gatherings.
Showcasing Aboriginal art and language at various locations.
Park amenities:
Waste and recycle bin.
Bike hooks.
Drinking fountain.
A unisex-accessible toilet block.
Additional seatings
A proposal for a 2m width path to improve connectivity through the site and expand the path network with the 1.8m boardwalk attachment passing through the Bush area of Snake Gully with a viewing platform.
