Council is embarking on a new stormwater drainage strategy to better understand Longwarry's existing and future stormwater-related challenges, such as climate change and population growth. It will also consider how best to manage flood risks, impacts on local waterways and options for the long-term protection of the town and its community assets.
The Longwarry Stormwater Drainage Strategy will help ensure the town is prepared and proactive in addressing stormwater concerns raised by our community and well-equipped to reduce risks associated with flooding events.
The study is focused on achieving the best outcomes for stormwater management, community benefits and environmental benefits that meet best practice standards. These outcomes include:
Reducing flood risks
Ensuring waterway health is protected
Providing community spaces that are accessible
Healthy landscapes and open spaces for community enjoyment
Consultation on this project is currently closed
Round one consultation closed on Wednesday 10 April 2024.
We asked residents and business owners to help inform the strategy by providing us with valuable knowledge and information about their experiences living and working in Longwarry, particularly around stormwater management.
These insights will support the creation of the strategy and help determine future land use and stormwater management planning.
