Join the Place Names Advisory Committee

Consultation has concluded

Baw Baw Shire Council currently has up to two vacancies on the Place Names Advisory Committee and is seeking submissions of expressions of interest from community members interested in joining.

About the Committee

The Place Names Advisory Committee is a valuable forum for discussion and decision-making on matters relating to the naming of Baw Baw Shire's streets, parks, reserves and features.

Several committee highlights 2023 include:

  • a survey conducted into notable, historical women in Baw Baw Shire. This received a broad and diverse response with several names set aside for future consideration.
  • the naming of the Pavilion at Warragul's Western Park after Liza Pharaoh.
  • the development of a Place Naming Policy to better guide the Committee's decisions and provide clarity to the community.

Advisory Committee Meetings are generally held in Warragul at the WGAC from 3pm - 5pm on the first Monday in March, June, September, and December.

Each Committee is governed by Terms of Reference and the overarching Advisory Committee Policy.
