Power and Connectivity Reliability

Intermittent electricity and poor telecommunications connectivity have been identified as not only an impediment to the day-to-day lives of the Noojee community but also a safety risk.

The regular loss of power not only contributes to the isolation of the community but is also a deterrent to the establishment of businesses in the area where uninterrupted power and internet connectivity are essential.

The Power and Connectivity Working Group is working to understand the challenges around power supply and telecommunications and identify key priority areas for planned improvements.

The Working Group are offering a free energy usage and needs assessment to 100 households in Noojee and District. Using the Residential Efficiency Scorecard, the assessment audit will assess electricity, gas and wood fire usage and collection, renewable energy, biomass, household waste, recycling, and home energy efficiency. The assessment will be conducted by the Baw Baw Sustainability Network and can be booked at https://bawbawshire.co/energyAudit.

Following an audit of current energy usage and future needs, the working group will explore:

  • Improved power supply and telecommunications for Noojee and District,
  • Renewable energy options including hydroelectric power and utilising biomass (organic matter used as a fuel) processed by a local anaerobic digestor for local gas supply,
  • Establishing a showcase for renewable energy which could be used for education and tourism.
