Walhalla’s Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine is one of six locations included in the Victorian Goldfields World Heritage Bid (VGWHB), which in February 2025 was placed on Australia’s World Heritage Tentative List (TL) by the Federal Government.
Australia’s World Heritage Tentative List (TL) is a list of ‘properties’ that the Australian Government intends to nominate for the World Heritage List sometime in the future. It's an important step because the World Heritage Committee can't consider a nomination unless the ‘property’ is already on the Tentative List.
Achieving World Heritage Listing is a catalyst for regional regeneration and is estimated to be worth $1 billion to the region (across 6 locations) over 10 years.
Three project working groups (PWGs) with membership from relevant government agencies, local businesses and the community will be established with the primary purpose to identify appropriate projects to support the sustainable development of the region.
To express your interest to join a Project Working Group, please complete the Expression of Interest Form. Expressions of Interest close 11:59pm on Sunday 16 November 2025.
