Provide feedback on the concept design for a new pump track in Warragul!
We are seeking community feedback on the concept design for a bike pump track at Burke Street Park, Warragul, and we’d like to hear your thoughts which will help Council secure funding for what would quickly become a much-loved community facility.
The track is entirely dependent on external funding and grants, so we want your input to help develop the best design concept possible and secure State Government support for this exciting project.
Why is a pump track being planned?
We’ve been working with the Baw Baw Shire Cycling Project Reference Group on other options for improved cycling infrastructure within the Shire.
The group’s top three priorities included a pump track.
This project will provide a valuable facility for a broad range of riders, skill levels and allow them to ride safely together and promote social interaction, outdoor recreation and skill progression.
The pump track is designed as an integrated yet distinct feature adjacent to the playground and skatepark, with intentional separation for safety. It connects seamlessly with the park’s layout, complementing the playground and skatepark to create a cohesive recreation precinct
What is a bike pump track?
A pump track is an open community facility, available for casual users, similar to a skate park or playground.
It provides an all-weather surface for beginners through to advanced riders. It is a purpose-built circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders 'pumping' - generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing.
This type of facility appeals to a broad audience and can be used by scooters, skateboards, inline skates and bikes.
Why Burke Street Park?
Burke Street Park has been considered as an ideal location for this given its excellent access, existing supporting infrastructure and close proximity to the town’s centre, other sporting infrastructure and local schools.
What is included in the concept design?
We've engaged Common Ground Trails to assist us with bringing this project to life. Common Ground is known across Australia for their mountain bike trail and pump track projects.
A concept design has been prepared (attached) with the proposed location east of the playground and skate park and west of the linear trail.
Proposed features include:
- 4m Radius Berm-1m height with entry and exit roller
- Typical Roller
- Double Roller
- Hipped Roller
- Double Roller Jump
- Advanced Hipped Jump
- Catch Berm
- Advanced Transfer Option.
Community consultation
The community were invited to review the concept design and have their say during the consultation period, between Friday 21 February and Monday 10 March.
A detailed report will be developed using feedback from the community. As this project is fully dependent on funding, Council will be applying for a grant with the State Government to fund the pump track.
