Why is the council preparing a master plan for Alex Goudi?

This project is a testament to the council's commitment to sustaining a precious piece of Drouin's open space for generations to come while also improving its current assets to provide better recreational opportunities that are inclusive.

The Master Plan will guide decisions for improvement and manage the park over the next 10 years, ensuring that upgrades are responsive to the community's evolving needs while also protecting its natural beauty for generations to come.

The purpose of the Master Plan is to guide the future development and management of Alex Goudi Native Park over the next 10 years.

How was the Master Plan drafted?

The concept plan was heavily informed by feedback received from the community during phase 1 consultation of OSS (Open Space Strategy) and reviewing council requests from the community over the past few years.

This also includes recent council submissions regarding boardwalks at Alex Goudi and meetings with involved community groups at the site, where the community expressed their most preferred activities.

How will the master plan address environmental sustainability and conservation efforts within the park?

The master plan includes measures to address environmental sustainability and conservation efforts within the park by implementing habitat restoration, water quality management, native spices plantations, and promoting connection of people with nature.

These initiatives aim to protect and enhance the natural beauty and ecological diversity of Alex Goudi Park.

What about Snake Gully section and proposed boardwalk?

Preparations are currently in progress for initiating the tendering process to conduct a feasibility study of the Snake Gully boardwalk. This study aims to evaluate its viability and determine the most suitable alignment. The feasibility study will encompass assessments of technical and financial feasibility, environmental impact, ecological considerations, and stakeholder analysis. By providing insights and information, the study will inform decision-making regarding the implementation of the Snake Gully boardwalk project, ensuring its technical feasibility, financial viability, environmental sustainability, and social acceptability.

Will there be opportunities for community involvement or volunteering in the implementation of the master plan?

Yes, there will be opportunities for community involvement and volunteering in the implementation of the master plan.

Community members will have the chance to participate in park enhancement projects, volunteer initiatives, and provide feedback during various stages of the planning and implementation process.

Stay tuned for updates on how you can get involved!

How will the master plan ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all park users, including people with disabilities?

The master plan prioritises accessibility and inclusivity for all park users, including people with disabilities age and gender.

This will be achieved through the incorporation of accessible pathways, play elements, and amenities, as well as the implementation of universal design principles to ensure equitable access to park facilities and experiences for everyone.
